After what Vincent described as a “disaster like deal with Sliptrick Records,” due to unresolved contract issues and several unmet or undelivered agreements, he continues to consult his legal team regarding the damages caused by the label. Adding to the frustration, wrong artists were credited on the tracks on online platforms such as Spotify, leading to confusion and misrepresentation of the actual contributors. In the meantime, he has shifted his focus toward the latest project under Polymerase, Mindspace.
The creation of Mindspace began in late 2023 and was only completed in the second quarter of 2025. The project started when Vincent, the main creative force behind Polymerase, began writing riffs that went in a different direction from band’s previous album. From the beginning, it was clear that this new material needed a different sonic approach, something more layered, introspective and expansive. Maybe, probably with a bit of lingering trauma from sending D&R 1 & 2 to labels, and what happened with Sliptrick, he decided to produce and release the album independently and just throw it into cyberspace, leaving it out there for anyone interested to find.
Initially, Eugene had agreed to handle the drums, but later explained that he still had to record drum parts for two of his other bands, making it difficult for him to fully commit to the album. Due to these scheduling conflicts, Vincent reached out to Francis, the drummer from Unostentatious, to ask if he would be willing to take on the role instead. Fortunately, Francis agreed.
Allan recorded the bass for “Cosmic Wanderlust” while Francis handled most of the drum tracking from the United Kingdom. Vincent composed and engineered the drums for three tracks: Incense for the Beast, Crows and Doves, and Divine Reefer. The guitars and the majority of the bass tracks were recorded in Quezon City. Vincent also wrote all the lyrics for the album, shaping its themes and message from start to finish.
Production also came to a temporary halt during the latter part of 2024 when Vincent had a freak accident that tore the tendon in his right middle finger. He had to undergo surgery and physical rehabilitation before he could resume playing and recording.
Mindspace explores themes of transcendence, altered states of consciousness, and spiritual awakening. It is about stepping beyond physical limits, confronting the self, and reflecting on inner struggles in the hope of unlocking deeper personal potential.
Sonically, the album is rooted in stoner rock but is infused with influences from krautrock, doom, sludge, and post metal. The band drew inspiration from artists such as Elder, Sleep, Om, Isis, Russian Circles, and Hawkwind. The result is a sound that is heavy, spacey, and meditative, designed to stretch and saturate the listener’s mind.
Mindspace is now available on Bandcamp, and a vinyl release is currently in the works for those who want to experience the music in physical form.
